Material Overview

Aluminum
Versatile aluminum alloys offering an excellent balance of strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability.
Common Grades: 6061, 7075, 5052, 2024-T851.
Applications: Automotive, aerospace, marine, structural, and electronics.
Surface Finishes: Anodizing, chromate conversion coating, brushing, polishing, bead blasting, and powder coating.
Tip:
6061 is a versatile choice for general machining, while 7075 offers higher strength for demanding applications.

Brass
Excellent machinability, good strength, corrosion resistance, and ductility.
Available Grades: C360, C260.
Applications: Fittings, fasteners, valves, terminals, and radiator components.
Surface Finishes: As Machined, Polished, Nickel Plated, Chrome Plated.
Tip:
C360 is ideal for high-volume turning with excellent chip breaking, while C260 may require effective chip breakers and high-pressure coolant.

Stainless Steel

Available Grades: 304/L, 316/L, 17-4 PH.

Steel

Available Grades: 1018 Mild Steel, 4140 Alloy Steel.

Tip:
Apply plating or protective coating to mild steel after machining to prevent rust. For alloy steel, use a rigid tool setup to handle higher cutting forces.

Copper
Excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, with good machinability and corrosion resistance.
Available Grades: C110, C101.
Applications: Bus bars, heat sinks, electrical contacts, terminals, connectors, and other electrical components.

Tip:
Use sharp, polished tools with high rake angles to minimize burrs. High-purity copper grades are more costly and should be used only when required by the application.

High-Speed Steel
High-Speed Steel (HSS) offers excellent hardness, wear resistance, toughness, and heat resistance.
